Automated Barcode Reading. In Today’s Automotive Manufacturing production processes, precise barcode scanning is crucial for optimizing productivity and profits.

OVERVIEW:

In Today’s Automotive Manufacturing production processes, precise barcode scanning is crucial for optimizing productivity and profits. They depend on a well-coordinated chain of events to make their operations work effectively. The operators typically use barcodes to point and shoot, scanning their material and tracking systems to ensure all components are present. Once all parts are assembled and their system has registered a successful barcode scan of each part, the automotive assemblies will progress down the production line.

CHALLENGE:

The handheld barcode readers work well, but they present several challenges. Operator use can cause them to get dropped, worn out, have misconfigured settings and accidentally break. Any of these situations can shut down the production line which can result in loss of profits. Handheld barcode readers require the operator to take time to find it, pick it up and manually point and shoot. This is a non-value-added time for the operator, performing functions that are not directly related to their job.

SOLUTION:

Fixed mount barcode readers can automate the barcode reading process. CIMTEC recommends that a fixed mount barcode reader can be mounted overhead. There are factors that determine distance code can be read. Our engineers have performed applications showing barcodes being read overhead from distances of up to 25 feet away.  By fix mounting the barcode reader, you give the operators the ability to be more productive on the assembly line.
